European Parliament calls on EU to slap sanctions against Russia

BRUSSELS, Apr 29 (PRIME) -- The European Parliament has approved a resolution to recommend the E.U. states imposing anti-corruption sanctions against Russia, the decision is not obligatory, as seen by PRIME in the authority’s materials on Thursday.

“The European Parliament… calls on the E.U. and its member states to draw on the U.K. legislative proposal for a global anti-corruption sanctions regime, and… underlines that E.U. member states should no longer be welcoming places for Russian wealth and investments of unclear origin… (and) continues to insist that Member States such as Cyprus, Bulgaria and Malta must abandon their ‘golden passport’ regimes,” the document read.

The parliament also suggested switching Russia off the international interbank settlement system SWIFT and stopping the construction of the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline project.
